Welcome to Woodend
The Woodend Self Catering Holiday Cottage Accommodation is quite remote and situated in the Lake District National Park in Cumbria, within the Woodend Farm estate and consists of the Bothy, Schoolhouse, Cottage and House. Although we are not part of the farm, we are surrounded by numerous sheep, cows, chickens, a horse, visiting ducks, canada geese, a heron and many other birds including pied wagtails.
The origins of Woodend go back between 300 - 400 years when it was originally the site of a Quaker settlement. In fact some of the buildings still remain; the schoolhouse, the bothy (which means a dwelling for a farm servant or a shepherd or hunters hut), and there are also the remains of a fireplace from a house lost many years ago in one of the walls that is now a wall for a field!
Woodend is located quite high on Birker Fell (950') and approached from the fell along a single track road through a gate. It has fantastic views across the fell towards Scafell Pike, (Englands's highest mountain), and is a ten minute walk from one of the smaller of the lakes, Devoke Water, which never the less is nearly a mile long.
At Woodend you not only have incredible views towards Scafell Pike from most of the rooms, but within a five minute walk you have stunning views over Devoke Water towards the coast. Within twenty minutes walking you can be at the top of Devoke Seat where, on a clear day, you have a 360 degree panoramic view that includes Devoke Water, the Langdales, the coast and the Isle of Man. We are situated 3 miles from both the Eskdale Valley and the Duddon Valley and conveniently situated for Ulpha, Seathwaite, Broughton-in-Furness and Boot
At Woodend Self Catering Holiday Cottages and Bed and Breakfast, B&B, we pride ourselves in combining comfortable and cosy accommodation for two people or more within a quiet relaxing environment. Whether you enjoy walking, fishing, cycling, climbing, sightseeing by car or just want to close the gate after you and not return to civilisation until it suits you, this is the perfect centre for all.
We are pet friendly and dogs are welcome.
