Set
in the Western Lake District looking out over Scafell Pike, Bow Fell and Crinkle
Crag and close to Devoke Water,
Woodend is an ideal centre for relaxing, walking, fishing, cycling, climbing,
sightseeing and the coast
Paul
and Sue welcome you
to the peace and tranquillity
of their home in the Cumbria Mountains to enjoy a memorable stay
Woodend
is located high on the fell between the Eskdale valley and Duddon valley and
offers
a range of comfortable self-catering
holiday cottage
accommodation
The origins of Woodend go back 300 years or more when it was originally
the site of a Quaker settlement. In fact some of the buildings still
remain; the schoolhouse, the
bothy (which means a dwelling for a farm servant or a shepherd or
hunters hut), and there are also the remains of a fireplace from a house
lost many years ago in one of the walls that is now a wall for a field! Woodend
is located quite high on Birker Fell and approached from the fell along
a single track road through a gate (which must be closed behind you).
It has views across the fell towards Scafell Pike, (Englands's highest
mountain), and is a ten minute walk from one of the smallest of the
lakes, Devoke Water, which never the less is nearly a mile long!
At Woodend
you not only have incredible views towards Scafell Pike from most of
the rooms, but within a five minute walk you have stunning views over
Devoke Water towards the coast, and within twenty minutes walking you
can be at the top of Devoke Seat where, on a clear day, you have a 360
degree panoramic view that includes Devoke Water, the Langdales, the
coast and the Isle of Man. We pride
ourselves in combining comfortable and cosy accommodation within a quiet
relaxing environment. Whether you enjoy walking, fishing, cycling, climbing,
sightseeing by car or just want to close the gate after you and not
return to civilisation until it suits you, this is the perfect centre
for all.
Surrounded
by hills and moorland with Englands highest mountains, these cosy cottages
have both been renovated retaining all their character and charm. There
is excellent walking "from their doors" with the hidden Devoke
Water only three quarters of a mile away where you can walk and fish
amid fantastic scenery.
Just 3 miles from the magnificent Eskdale and Duddon valleys and the
Ravenglass to Eskdale steam railway, it is a haven of peace and tranquility
and offers a wonderful holiday experience at any time of the year.
